Catalogue of Whitespace: Space as a tool. In every design field, the designer has to work with space. Besides the work itself, the space around an object, the whitespace, is one of the essential elements a designer can use. To visualise how spaces were used in Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, I created a system to map and analyse them by the levels of usage. Catalogue of Whitespace literally shows the possibilities to fill in more content. On the other hand, it also describes how important whitespace in art and design is.
Supermarket typeface: Set of typefaces inspired by my experiences in supermarket: everything was packed, and stack on top of each other, the mix & match deals and promotions.
Fact and/or Fiction?: From an investigation into people’s contribution to US presidential campaign in 2012, the data shows that contributions during the weekdays are much higher than the weekends. My assumption was that contributors could be influenced by their colleagues. The book presents the connection among contributors who work in the same company and have the same job title.
10 / thousands books: IN APRIL 2013, AT DESIGN ACADEMY EINDHOVEN, THERE WAS AN ISSUE ABOUT CUTTING DOWN THE OPENING HOURS OR EVEN COMPETELY CLOSING THE SCHOOL’S LIBRARY. WHILE FOR MANY STUDENTS, A DESIGN SCHOOL WITHOUT A LIBRARY IS TOO RIDICULOUS, SOME DIDN’T CARE AS THEY THOUGHT THAT A LIBRARY IS NOT NECESSARY ANYMORE, THANKS TO GOOGLE. AFTER AN INTERVENTION IN SCHOOL LIBRARY, I FOUND OUT THAT WITHOUT LIBRARIAN’S EXPERTISE, COLLECTIONS (BOOKS), AND DAILY CONVERSATIONS BETWEEN STUDENTS AND LIBRARIAN, OUR LIBRARY IS JUST A ROOM WITH BOOKS. ‘10 / THOUSANDS BOOKS’ IS A MODEL WHICH CONNECTS BOOKS, LIBARIAN AND STUDENTS. THE PROJECT AIMS AT RE-PRESENTING AND EMPHASIZING QUALITIES OF THE SCHOOL’S LIBRARY — MAKE IT VISIBLE AND KEEP IT ACTIVE.
Source: SOURCE is the weekly theory programme for all master departments at the Design Academy. Every week artist, designer, philosopher, writer, curator, or inspiring people from related fields are invited to give a lecture or conduct a workshop with students. Selected posters here are from series of posters I designed for SOURCE lectures. The designs of each poster aim to give students a hint to the topic.
